Sharmaji (Dave Sharma) bridges the two cultures of his background with fluid sonic energy. As a DJ and percussionist he's brought his riddims to artists as diverse as Karsh Kale, Ming & FS, Tina Sugandh, JUNGLI, and Timbaland's hookstress RajeSwari, as well as for NYC's 9-years-strong Basment Bhangra party and hometown bhangra sensation Bikram Singh.
Himachal Pradesh meets midwest USA
In 2004 he logged around 300 performances on Broadway in the AR Rahman musical "Bombay Dreams" .... 2005 witnessed a divine tour in Brazil with DJ Rekha (and, with good fortune, dubstep warrior Kode9), Toronto with DK and State of Bengal, a completely rammed performance at Madison Square Garden for the LaKalle Block Party w/ reggaeton greats Wisin y Yandel and Don Omar, obliterated drumming w/ NYC heroes HOY and Yearbook, post-diasporic Afrocentric grime with Guillermo Brown and the MH soundsystem, Boston and Miami in 24 hours with Jungli, Collaborations with the superlative Sunny Jain Collective and Kaash, and headlining DJ sets at DirectDrive, Avaaz, and Tablatronic.
Besides spending more time Asia than at home in Brooklyn, 2006 so far has seen a Bombay Dreams on the road in the USA, a deconstructed tabla/dubstep DJ set in St. Louis, a smashed Turntablas on the Bayou party in Houston w/ Deep Singh and the Mahabeats, and recording session for J.lo 6 hours before heading out to Sri Lanka. Coming up on deck we've got summerstage in NYC w/ Cheb i Sabbah, a return to Avaaz iin September, the release of the "karawane" record on escort, and more dubstep collabos.
His production and recording work has garnered praise in Fader magazine, MantramOL, and NY metro and can be heard on underground radio, in various TV spots (posts to come) and on dubplate. holler if ya waan hear more.
